Happy New Year folks! Hope you had a restful and relaxing holiday season! I am so excited for 2022 and I have lined up a whole list of recipes for recipe development for the blog. I will also be making some changes to my nutrition consultation offerings and will also be doing more nutrition videos on my youtube channel! If you have not already subscribed to my YouTube channel, please do so now!
Today I am thrilled to do this cookbook review. ‘The Paleo Gut healing cookbook’ is one of the newest Paleo and AIP cookbooks that came out last month. It is written by my friend and fellow blogger Alison Marras who blogs at foodbymars.com. If you have been to Alison’s website, you must already know how lovely her recipes are! Alison is an NTP (Nutritional Therapy Practitioner) herself and so in this book she has complied 75 nourishing recipes to help heal the gut. Although not all the recipes in the book are AIP compliant, many of the recipes are either AIP or can be made AIP.
Things I love about this book:
The recipes are absolutely delicious! Many of the recipes in this book are inspired by Puerto Rican cuisine and I love Puerto Rican food!
Some of my favorite main course recipes from the book are:
- Mango Chicken Jabaritos (plantain sandwiches)
- Picadillo with Plantain rice
- Lemony Greek Fishermen’s Soup – I love that it has an AIP option for the sauce.
- Chicken Pad Thai with green papaya noodles – Has an AIP friendly sauce!
- Greek Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
- Pastelon (Puerto Rican casserole)
In the desserts section, I loved these two:
- Coconut Custard Pie
- Tahini Caramel bars – Has an AIP option!
In the condiments section, the Chimichurri sauce and the ‘Cheese’ sauce are two recipes that I would like to try immediately!
This is not just a recipe book. The book includes a lot of nutrition tips and advice. In the first part of the book, Alison talks about the 10 best practices for improving digestion along with providing detailed practical tips to implement those steps in real life! For example, there is a full section devoted to Mindful Eating. The book also talks about the Gut Brain axis and how they are interconnected and crucial to so many systems in our body. I love that this book is not just about food but it also teaches you to look at healing holistically.
And to further help you clinch the deal, the book also has a 14 day gut healing Meal plan which will help you to implement these healing recipes in your life!
