My journey began in 2015 when I was first diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. Until then I was a super busy soccer mom with a full time job as a researcher. And RA hit me suddenly and severely. My symptoms started first with a wrist pain and then every day pretty much it was a new joint. Very soon all my joints were affected and my shoulders were the worst impacted. Those first few weeks were the worst not knowing what my diagnosis was and going from doctor to doctor. I also made a couple trips to the ER as I had severe shoulder pain. So it was almost a relief when I got the RA diagnosis.
I was hopeful that medications would help me. However I was disappointed as the medications could help reduce my pain only to some extent but they also gave me lot of side effects.
Being a pharmacist by education, I knew the long term side effects of those medications and that made me very nervous. So I started exploring alternative therapy - veganism, ayurveda, homeopathy and naturopathy. I became quite depressed and frustrated. It was only after I began to pray regularly and added meditation to my routine that my negative thoughts went away and I started feeling positive even though pain wise I was still in bad shape. But then I was introduced to the ' Autoimmune Protocol' called as the 'AIP' diet by a naturopath and I started digging more into it. After reading all I could on ' The Paleo Mom' and the 'Autoimmunewellness' websites, I was excited to try it. I was so motivated by the science behind it that I jumped into it right away.
Along wth AIP, I also added a bunch of supplements which helped reduce the inflammation. Within 3 months, I saw results. My inflammation markers came to normal levels which surprised my rheumatologist who wanted to put me on biologicals. As I began to heal, I also knew that I did not want to go back to my stressful job. That's when I decided to quit my job and focus further on my health. When I was fully well, I decided to switch careers and study nutritional therapy. Now I enjoy doing what I do - coaching people to incorporate diet and lifestyle changes into their lives. Cooking is a passion too and in 2021, I published my first cookbook AIP Indian Fusion which has 100% AIP compliant recipes with Indian flavors.

This cook book has awesome picture for every recipe !! Yes, every recipe. Love it! Who doesn't like that?! No need to visualize how it would turn out..................Awesome combinations of vegetables and meat/seafood. I just leave the book in the kitchen counter and use it every day!
