ChocoNutty Bars

Do you ever crave for something sweet and ‘chocolatey’ in the middle of the day? Well I certainly do …and sometimes also after a meal.  So this is one bar that will satisfy your craving for chocolate and at the same time also deliver some healthful stuff since it has coconut as well as walnuts in addition to good old chocolate. And the best thing is – making them is a ‘piece of cake’! (no pun intended!) Just assemble all the ingredients and throw them in a pan and into the oven!

This recipe will make about 30  1 inch squares

You will need:

1/2 cup butter softened at room temperature
1  1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
1 cup toffee bits
1 cup unsweetened coconut flakes (or fresh grated coconut)
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 can sweetened condensed milk, 14 oz

Method:

Pre-heat oven to 350 deg F.

Take a medium size bowl and add the butter. To this add the flour, the cocoa powder and the brown sugar and mix using a fork (or you can use your hands to mix them lightly). The mixture will be dry and crumbly.

Take a rectangular shallow tray and grease it with a little butter.  Now add the dry crumbly mixture into the tray and spread fully across the tray to form an even layer.

Next spread the toppings -chocolate chips, the toffee bits, the coconut flakes and the walnut pieces on top.

Lastly, drizzle the condensed milk over this in a zigzag fashion over the toppings making sure that it is evenly distributed over the entire tray.

Bake at 350 Deg F for about 25-30 minutes until the edges turn crispy and the coconut turn golden brown.
