Peppery Lobster/Crab Stir Fry

IMG_1511Last month towards the fag end of school vacation, we decided to getaway last minute to the Cape for a couple days.  Oh boy were we glad to do that! The gorgeous white sandy beaches and the blue waters proved to be just what we all needed for rejuvenating our mind and bodies. The kids could not have enough of the lovely sand which was so clean and pure and barely stuck to our feet!. Chatham beach was our favorite one in all of Cape Cod. And the fresh seafood was what we could not have enough of!

We were feeling very sad on our way back -the kids were not too excited about school starting soon and my husband and I were not too delighted at the prospect of getting back to our work and other normal routine (and very very boring!) affairs. In the midst of that quiet ride back home, I spotted a market selling fresh lobster!  Oh that’s just what we need I told the hubby. He said ‘are u crazy?’ I said ‘We do have a cooler…why can’t we?’. So he relented and we went inside to take a look. The fellow at the shop was too keen to sell them to us and upon our inquiry immediately got one out of the tank for us. My husband looked at me and went ‘Would one be enough?’ I shook my head as in ‘probably yes’ but he misinterpreted that and he asked for one more.! So in 5 minutes we were out of the store with 2 lobsters packed in a cooler.  The rest of the ride home was a lot of fun with us teasing our son that the lobsters would get out and get him since he was lazing on the rear seat of our minivan! Also my husband wondered aloud how mom was going to tackle the lobster and make a meal out of them! I will admit I was nervous however I derived confidence from the fact that my dear dad who has been visiting us would come to my rescue!

Anyways, so long story short – yes dad came to the rescue and we did tackle the two lobsters! It was actually not too bd – we stuck them in the freezer for a day and then put them in boiling water.  Once cooked and cooled, we very patiently got all the meat out – yes this part was hard!.  Dad helped me with the cooking by sharing his Keralan recipe for cooking crabs! So we made a delicious and spicy lobster curry. The meat from the legs we used to do a peppery stir fry which was simply incredible. In Kerala crab meat is more common and the stir fry is made with crab meat. Here I present the recipe for the stir fry which is a very simple one with coconut oil and curry leaves and is just so tasty!  We love to eat this with white rice and dal however the kids loved to eat as is and with bread! It does make a delicious spicy lobster roll!

I am bringing this peppery lobster stir fry dish to Fiesta Friday this week. Also sharing some of the lovely pics that we took while at the Cape.

  1. Slurp! This looks devine! I’ve always made curry with whole crab, even though delicious sometimes its just a hassle, and I never thought of making it your way. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Looks super tasty! I’m sure gonna give it a try.

  2. This looks delicious Indu – I have been to Cape Cod once and the seafood is so plentiful – we could not get enough of it either. The last time I fixed lobster I had to use the tails as I just could not bring myself to cook a live one – good for you and I am glad you had your husband to help 🙂
